Residents in Punggol report brown-coloured water

PUB says valve operations for the connection of a newly laid pipeline caused tap water to be discoloured for Punggol residents.

SINGAPORE: Residents in Punggol reported having brown-coloured tap water for a few hours on Thursday (June 12). One person who called MediaCorp's news hotline says Housing and Development Board blocks with the numbers 200+ and 600+ were affected.

The Public Utilities Board (PUB) says it received reports of discoloured water from 2 pm. This was two hours after it had carried out valve operations on a transmission water main along the Tampines Expressway (TPE) for the connection of a newly laid pipeline.

"These valve operations caused some re-suspension of sediments in the pipeline, resulting in the discolouration of the water. These sediments are minerals in tap water which settled down over time in the pipes," a PUB statement said.

PUB has sent officers to flush the water mains, and will help affected residents flush their service pipes. In the meantime, temporary water supply has been deployed for those affected.

Those who need help can contact PUB's 24-hour call centre at 1800-284-6600.
