SINGAPORE: Global medical technology firm Medtronic is investing some S$80 million to set up a manufacturing facility in Singapore.

On Thursday, the firm also marked the opening of its international headquarters, which it has moved to Singapore to tap into growing demand in Asia.

Currently 10% of Medtronic's business comes from Asia but it expects significant growth in the region.

The new facility in Singapore will produce cardiac rhythm disease management devices.

Production is set to start in 2011.

Medtronic expects to hire over 100 staff over the next two years as production ramps up.
