Fat Boy the cat rescued after spending 9 days stuck on power pole

Fat Boy the cat managed to survive for nine days atop a 45 foot power pole before being rescued by utility workers.

The rescue mission, which occurred in Fresno, California, meant power had to be cut from 250 homes while the feline was retrieved.

Linemen from Pacific Gas and Electric Co (PG&E) in Fresno managed to get the cat down from the pole on Tuesday, according to the Fresno Bee.

The cat hadn't had food or water for nine days, and didn't budge for the pole despite wind and rain on Sunday.

His fourteen-year-old owner, Andrew Perez, said his family had reached out to the fire department and other agencies, but to no avail.

He told the local paper: “We called everyone – anyone that could help, but they didn’t come,

“He’s a nice cat. He probably went up there because he got scared by a dog. I was scared.”

Silver Villa of nonprofit Paw Lives Matter claimed local tree services also declined to save the cat, but she was determined to find someone who would retrieve the puss.

On his retrieval, she immediately injected the cat with fluids and gave him food, which he began eating immediately.

She said: “I figured somebody would’ve helped by now. I just wanted to make sure the cat was going to be saved, and I wasn’t going to get off the phone until it was.

"He’s pretty healthy for being up there this long.”

PG&E spokesman Denny Boyles said: "It’s not a simple thing to climb a power pole and get a cat down.

"The first thing we have to do is de-energize the line – it’s a 12,000-volt line. The safety of the two guys who went up on the pole, and the crew member on the ground, has to be our first priority every time.

"Sometimes we wait out cats on poles … 99 percent of the time, cats come down on their own. In this case, it’s been up there that long, we just made the decision to go ahead and go up there."

The company has installed pet-deterrent plastic on the pole to make sure no other animals make the excursion in future.

The Nearby feature has expanded to new areas

Trainers,
After reviewing your feedback, we have made some changes to the Nearby feature we were originally testing in San Francisco, California. We have changed the feature to only show the Nearby feature if a PokéStop is close to your location. In addition, we have also made changes to the way Sightings now works.
We will be expanding the ability for Trainers to test this updated version of the features and provide us with feedback. Starting today, Trainers in the following areas will now be able to use the new Nearby and Sightings functionality:
  • United States of America: All states west of the Mississippi River (except Hawaii and Alaska)
  • Canada: British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and the western half of Ontario.
  • Australia: All states and territories
Your feedback submitted to all of our official social media accounts and posted in other channels is important to us. We will continue to review community feedback and make changes if necessary.
Our first six months has been nothing short of exciting and your continued support has been inspiring. We have a lot of content, features, and functionality that we will be implementing over the coming months and years. Our goal is to to always improve on existing features where we can while also releasing exciting new content and functionality.

Adjustments to the Combat Power of Various Pokémon

Trainers,
We have made adjustments to the CP (Combat Power) of various Pokémon. Some Pokémon, such as Alakazam, Rhydon, and Gengar will have their CP increased. Others will have their CP lowered. These changes will allow a more balanced and competitive battling and training experience in Gyms. We will continue to adjust the CP going forward to improve the game balance when necessary.
