S’pore experiences hazy conditions as PSI climbs into moderate range

SINGAPORE – Air quality worsened today (March 7) as Singapore experienced hazy conditions since the late afternoon.

As at 8pm, the three-hour Pollutant Standards Index (PSI) was in the moderate range of 71. The 24-hour PSI was between 42 and 50, while the PM2.5 was between 29 to 33 μg/m3.

The National Environment Agency (NEA) said PSI readings have been elevated since 5pm.

The haze may be due to hotspots to the north of Singapore, blown in by the prevailing northeasterly winds, said the NEA. A total of four hotspots were detected in Peninsular Malaysia today, and 35 hotspots in Sumatra.

“The hazy condition is expected to persist overnight. NEA will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as necessary,” said the agency.
