SINGAPORE: Yishun residents may now be able to get to and from work with less hassle, thanks to a new express bus service launched on Monday.

Service 850E connects Yishun to the Central Business District by using the Seletar and Central Expressways.

It operates two trips - at 7:30am and 7:45am - from Yishun Avenue 11 to Shenton Way, and two other trips in the evening from Anson Road back to Yishun Avenue 11 - at 6:15pm and 6:30pm.

Minister for Law and Foreign Affairs and Nee Soon GRC MP, K Shanmugam said the service started based on feedback from residents.

He said: "It's a direct service straight into town. The residents we spoke with were very happy about it. But the way I see it, my fellow MPs see it, it is but a small step and there are a lot more things that we need to do."

Mr Shanmugam also added that the transport issues in the Nee Soon constituency are similar to those in other places.

"The MRT trains are crowded during peak periods, the feeder buses, we need to have more of them, and in terms of also the services, we need to try and enhance them. So as I said, everything helps, but this is not a panacea, this is one small step. We have a lot more to do," he said.
