Weather Outlook: 1 - 15 August 2009
1. For the first two weeks of August 2009, Southwest Monsoon conditions should continue to prevail over Singapore and the surrounding region. The surface winds over Singapore are expected to blow predominantly from the southeast or the south-southwest.
2. During this period, short-duration showers with thunder are expected on 4 to 5 days between the late morning and early afternoon. In addition, showers with thunder accompanied with occasional gusty winds due to “Sumatra” squalls are likely on 1 to 2 days in the pre-dawn and early morning.
3. Seasonal dry conditions are expected to affect parts of the region. Singapore may experience slightly hazy conditions for a few days during the period. Rainfall for the first half of August 2009 is likely to be below average for most parts of Singapore.
