方伟杰住在20多层楼高，最爱家里的阳台。（受访者）
游子方伟杰曾四处租房居无定所，母亲砸积蓄买下大巴窑公寓，助儿子将来结婚娶老婆！
方伟杰10多年前从上海来到新加坡求学，住过很多地方，从丹戎加东搬到维拉三美路、红山、旧合乐路和惹兰红山皆是跟别人租房子，直至两年前，才在大巴窑买下自己的安乐窝。当时，方伟杰已入行赚到钱，跟妈妈合资买房，不过，母亲出了大部分，砸下大笔积蓄，两母子才终于在本地有属于自己的家。
母为他结婚‘铺路’
25岁的他笑说：“我妈妈把这个房子买下来，是为了给我结婚用的！”他解释，身为一个男人，结婚的时候要有经济上的安全感。“不管是新加坡，还是中国上海，买屋子其实是非常重要的事情，这间屋子我跟我妈买下来之后，我觉得可以，省下我10年的时间去拼搏。新加坡的房子很贵，省了很多事情。”
他认为，如果没有这间房子当“经济基础”，日后房价再涨，到时就不知道自己有没有能力买房子。“已经有这个房子，以后可以花下一个10年去买第二个房子，然后把第一个租出去，不知道以后发生什么事情，可能以后没有赚到这么多钱，也至少，在新加坡有自己的房子。”
房东欠钱屋被封 累他麦当劳当‘家’
方伟杰在理工学院就读时，住在红山。当时，房东拖欠相关单位的钱，屋子被封，因为不想麻烦友人，最后流连全岛各地，把麦当劳快餐店当成“家”。
试过无家可归的他说：“我觉得，有钱有车没什么，更重要是有一个家，有一个避风港，这个是很重要的。”
他和母亲是新加坡永久居民，日后希望在本地长住。“我来新加坡10多年了，有一个家非常温馨，从小到大一直在外面租房子，搬来搬去，没有一个归属感，现在有了家有了归属感。”并多次强调：“有家才是最重要的。”
最爱家里的阳台
他喜欢住家附近的环境，交通方便，四通八达，也靠近电视台。
说到此处，他失笑说：“但，（电视台）马上要搬了！本来想说，公司那么靠近我们就买这个地方，买下来之后，却要搬了，哈哈。”
家里方面，因住在20多层楼高，他最爱的是家里的阳台，可以登高望远、有风景。至于自己的房间，他先用了“简陋”再用了“麻雀虽小五脏俱全”形容。他说：“我以前和妈妈在新加坡是睡上下铺的，我妈睡下面我睡上面，这次不一样，我们一人有一间房，很开心。”
不过，他的衣服、鞋子多，房间不够位放，已经“侵入”母亲的房间，常被母亲念“你的衣服已经多到堆成山了，可以不要这样吗，你不要穿的就拿出来就捐给人家”，并笑说，衣服和鞋子的数量比母亲多五倍。
方伟杰之所以会自创服饰品牌“First Attempt”，也跟这个大巴窑的家有关。
一年多前，他邀好兄弟到家里看红魔曼联的球赛，“我们一边看球赛，一边聊衣服，点子很多，然后品牌就出来了，第二天就落实了。”
家中最特别摆设 舅舅‘女娲补天’
说到家里最特别的摆设，他说是住在上海的舅舅送的《女娲补天》画。
“只用了钢笔画的，舅舅从小就很会画画，可是他不是画家，当了医生。妈妈很喜欢，在上海跟舅舅要回来的。”
除此之外，另一个重要的“摆设”就是“红星大奖”的“最佳新人”和“十大最受欢迎男艺人”奖座。
两个奖座目前放在进出家门都看得到的地方，如未来拿到更多的奖座，才会买一个玻璃柜把奖座放进去。

Defence Minister Ng Eng Hen has urged residents of Toa Payoh Central not to sell their flats unless they have to.

Dr Ng, who is also MP for the area, said homes there may fetch a high selling price, but it will be hard to find a replacement, given its central location and accessibility.
Dr Ng was speaking at a National Day dinner celebration.
He said: "One is, if you sell your home from Toa Payoh, I worry that you are going to find it hard to find a replacement home that's better than Toa Payoh with the same amount of money.
"Second, I think that more likely than not, the prices of homes in Toa Payoh will go up. Why? Because if you look at the map, Toa Payoh is in the centre.
"North, south, east, west, whatever you build - roads and MRT - sooner or later they will have to cross Toa Payoh. That is why transportation is so easy here."
Dr Ng also said education is the best way to raise the standard of living of families.
He pledged to help children who may face difficulties.
One way is through fund-raising efforts, such as a marathon held in February where money raised helped children attend enrichment classes.

My First Skool, which is embroiled in an alleged childcare abuse case, said it has put in place measures across all its centres to provide further reassurance to parents.
SINGAPORE: My First Skool, which is embroiled in an alleged childcare abuse case, said it has put in place measures across all its centres to provide further reassurance to parents.
On Wednesday, My First Skool was informed by the Early Childhood Development Agency through a warning letter that the licence tenure of its childcare centre at Blk 192 Toa Payoh would be cut from 24 months to six months with immediate effect.
The measures are aimed at improving its communications with parents, enhancing the incident review process, reinforcing the importance of proper care of children and stepping up support for teachers.
To improve parent communications, parents can direct their queries to its headquarters via a newly-set up email address (feedback@myfirstskool.com). Calls can also be made to its customer service team at 6634 9989.
My First Skool's management said it will see to the closure of all feedback.
As for improving the incident review process, it said all cases of injury, accident or mishandling reported through its principals or HQ are investigated thoroughly and promptly.
It added that complex cases will be assessed by an independent review panel with the aim to give parents greater assurance of transparency and accountability of the incident review process.
In terms of proper care for children, My First Skool said it will encourage staff to report questionable practices to their supervisors.
It wants its staff to escalate their feedback under its whistle-blowing policy should the issues not be satisfactorily attended to.
My First Skool said whistle blowing is done through an independent channel which reports to the board audit committee.
As for support for teachers, My First Skool said it will also deploy additional resources over time to assist teachers in managing classes that require more support.

SINGAPORE: The childcare centre involved in the alleged child abuse case has had its licence tenure cut from 24 months to six months.
Earlier this month, a teacher there was arrested after CCTV footage showed her allegedly dragging a three-year-old boy across the floor and pushing him to the floor with force.
The Early Childhood Development Agency (ECDA) said that it conducted its investigations at My First Skool in Toa Payoh and found that there were certain aspects that required improvements.
This means that ECDA will conduct more frequent checks at the centre and it will have to demonstrate its compliance with certain conditions. This includes providing better support and training to its teachers to handle difficult situations, clearer standard operating procedures for reporting incidents, and improving its programmes.
Acting Minister for Social and Family Development Chan Chun Sing added that following the alleged abuse incident, the priority is to strengthen processes within the sector, as well as build trust between parents, teachers and operators.
He said this on Thursday on the sidelines of a visit to teacher training programmes and pre-schools under the Crestar Education Group.
Mr Chan said: "Over the next six months we fully expect NTUC My First Skool to work closely with ECDA to comply with the regulations so that they can up their standards necessary. And then we will review the situation after six months."

SINGAPORE: With the drop in resale flat transactions, the number of units with high Cash-over-Valuations (COVs) has fallen too.
According to data from the Singapore Real Estate Exchange, in the first quarter of 2013, there were 56 flats with COVs exceeding S$100,000.
The figure dropped some 20 per cent to 44 in the second quarter.
In the first quarter, the top five towns with most flats commanding COV values exceeding S$100,000 were Bishan, Toa Payoh, Geylang, Tampines and Ang Mo Kio.
In the second quarter, Bishan and Toa Payoh still emerged tops, followed by Pasir Ris, Hougang and Bukit Merah.
Analysts felt that flats in Bishan and Toa Payoh are popular so it is not surprising that buyers are still willing to pay higher prices.
Flats in Pasir Ris and Hougang could command high COVs, perhaps because they are near the MRT stations, have larger floor areas or have had appealing renovations.
Analysts also pointed out that with the Housing and Development Board launching more Built-to-Order flats, the resale market has cooled.
Median COV values have dropped from S$33,000 in the first quarter to S$28,000 in the second quarter.
In the next six months, they could drop further.
Chris Koh, director of Chris International, said: "I won't be surprised if it will be in the range of S$15,000 for median COV, which to me, is a good level, because that would mean that we are looking at maybe COVs of sometimes S$10,000 for flats that are not in very prime locations and are not renovated, for example, versus some that may be slightly higher than $15,000."

The NTUC My First Skool teacher at the centre of an alleged child abuse case has been dismissed.
SINGAPORE: The NTUC My First Skool teacher at the centre of an alleged child abuse case has been dismissed.
NTUC First Campus, which runs My First Skool, said the teacher acknowledged her actions were "inappropriate" during a panel meeting Monday morning and accepted the dismissal.
Meanwhile, two other parents whose children were under the teacher's care have also filed police reports.
Channel NewsAsia understands that the two other parents had seen their children with bruises in the past, and want the police to investigate if their children had also been mishandled.
The 51-year-old teacher was arrested Sunday following an earlier police report.
The teacher is currently out on bail and police say investigations are still ongoing.
The incident happened on 5 July at My First Skool in Toa Payoh.
CCTV footage showing a woman dragging a boy across the floor and pushing him down with force has gone viral online. The woman is believed to be the child's teacher.
The father of the child said the boy suffered a hairline fracture in his left shin.
The parents had demanded to see the CCTV footage of the incident after they were told that the child had a fall.
About 10 parents from the playgroup class met the CEO of NTUC First Campus and the general manager of My First Skool on Monday morning.
Fourteen of the 45 children previously cared for by the teacher were absent on Monday.

The Ministry of Social and Family Development (MSF) will conduct a thorough investigation of the alleged childcare abuse incident at My First Skool, said Acting Minister Chan Chun Sing on Sunday.
SINGAPORE: The Ministry of Social and Family Development (MSF) will conduct a thorough investigation of the alleged childcare abuse incident at My First Skool, said Acting Minister Chan Chun Sing on Sunday.
The investigation will include the training of the centre's staff, their supervision, and incident management procedures.
The acting minister said the findings will be shared with other childcare operators to allow everyone to learn from it.
Mr Chan added that his ministry is looking at the case very seriously as it concerns the safety of children.
He said: "This is a very timely reminder of the heavy responsibility that all of us have in taking care of children, as childcare operators and also as education providers.
"There are rules in place, there are frameworks in place for the conduct of any activities and lessons and we expect all these rules and frameworks to be followed and of course we will also be looking to see how all this can be improved to give our parents the sense of assurance."
The minister also said that there are considerations to implement CCTVs across the pre-school sector.
He however cautioned that while such surveillance has been useful in resolving misunderstandings, technology should not be seen as the solution.
The quality and commitment of teachers should be more important, he said.
Separately, Senior Minister of State for Education Indranee Rajah said the alleged incident underscores the fact that it is important for all childcare centres, or any place with children under their care, to ensure that their charges are well looked after.
She added that while the exact circumstances of the case are not known yet, it is important that the matter is being looked into.
Ms Indranee also said that the child's health and well-being is the most important thing.
She said: "At the present time, because investigations are still ongoing it's still premature to reach definitive outcomes... but I think that it's important the matter is being looked into. What I can say in general is that all childcare givers would obviously have to make sure that the children under their care are properly taken care of.
"One must always bear in mind that children are young, they're vulnerable, they obviously don't think and act like adults. And so long as they are under your care, you must ensure that the environment that you place them in, and the way you interact with them are in their best interests."

CCTV footage showing a woman dragging a boy to a corner and pushing him roughly has gone viral online. The woman is believed to be the child's teacher.
The three-year-old boy suffered a hairline fracture in his left shin.
Speaking at a news conference on Sunday, Mr Chan said the injury was due to mishandling by the boy's teacher.
Mr Chan said the teacher's conduct was "totally unacceptable" and that she has been placed on immediate suspension.
"The due process is underway, and we will not hesitate to take the appropriate action for wrongdoings," he said.
He told reporters that the 51-year-old teacher has been teaching at My First School part-time since 2009, and that no complaints had been made about her before.
To assure parents, NTUC First Campus has set up a dedicated line to address concerns and will step up engagement and training of staff to reinforce right conduct, behaviour and practices.

NTUC's My First Skool said it is co-operating fully with the police on the case of alleged child abuse at its centre located in Blk 192 Toa Payoh Central.
SINGAPORE: NTUC's My First Skool said it is co-operating fully with the police on the case of alleged child abuse at its centre located in Blk 192 Toa Payoh Central.
My First Skool also said the teacher involved has been suspended with immediate effect.
It added that the safety and welfare of the children is top priority and that it takes this responsibility very seriously.
Its statement was in response to an alleged child abuse incident which resulted in a boy having a hairline fracture in his leg.
Video clips of the alleged incident have gone viral.
My First Skool said its main focus is the child's welfare and that the parents of the child have requested for a transfer to another centre in its network.
The Ministry of Social and Family Development said it is aware of an alleged incident at My First Skool.
The ministry added child safety remains its paramount concern and that it is investigating.
