Twitter unveils email sharing

SAN FRANCISCO: Twitter on Thursday introduced a new feature to the globally popular one-to-many text messaging service -- the ability to email "Tweets" directly from the message stream.
The new feature made its debut as the San Francisco-based firm rolled out improved applications for using the service on iPhones or smartphones powered by Google-backed Android software.
"You can retweet any (Twitter messages) to your Twitter followers, but sometimes you want to share with another group, like your college roommates or your parents or a friend who isn't yet on Twitter," engineer Stefan Filip said in a blog post.
"That's why we're introducing the ability to email a Tweet directly from twitter.com."
The feature will be rolled out to all users of Twitter -- which allows its members to post brief comments, links or pictures -- in the coming weeks, according to Filip.
Updates to Twitter applications for iPhone and Android were designed to improve search results and highlight photos, videos and news shared at the service.

Ayumi Hamasaki now dating dancer 6 years her junior
TOKYO: Japanese pop princess Ayumi Hamasaki revealed Wednesday in a blog entry on her fan club's website, that she is now dating her backup dancer Maroka Uchiyama, who is six years her junior, reported Japanese media.
Hamasaki and her husband, Austrian model Manuel Schwarz, had called it quits in January, a little over a year after their whirlwind marriage in Las Vegas.
But it appears she is ready for love again.
The 34-year-old star said in her blog entry that she "did not want to keep it a secret" and declared that she is in "a serious relationship" with Uchiyama, who has been working with her since 2007.
Hamasaki, who has 110 releases under her belt so far, is one of Japan's most prolific artistes.
According to the Japanese Oricon music charts, she is also the first Japanese solo artiste whose total album and single sales have gone past the 50 million mark.

SINGAPORE - Singapore's First Real Estate Investment Trust, which owns healthcare assets, is placing up to 31.6 million units at an indicative price range of S$0.95-S$0.97 each, raising as much as S$30.7 million (US$25.1 million).
The First Reit units will yield around 7.4-7.6 per cent based on the offer price, according to a term sheet seen by Reuters.
First Reit units, which are suspended from trading, were last transacted at S$0.985, down 1.5 per cent. The trust is sponsored by Indonesia's Lippo Karawaci.

S'pore economy expected to grow 1.5% in 2012

SINGAPORE: Singapore's economy is expected to grow by around 1.5 per cent in 2012 and 1.0 per cent to 3.0 per cent in 2013.
Early estimates show that on a year-on-year basis, the economy grew by 0.3 per cent in the third quarter of 2012, following the 2.5 per cent increase in the earlier quarter.
On a quarter-on-quarter basis, the economy contracted by 5.9 per cent, after growing by 0.5 per cent in the previous quarter.
MTI said the drop was attributed to the decline in externally-oriented sectors such as manufacturing and wholesale trade.
On a quarter-on-quarter basis, the manufacturing sector contracted by 9.6 per cent following a decline in the electronics manufacturing cluster.
On a year-on-year basis, the manufacturing sector declined by 0.8 per cent, compared to the 4.6 per cent expansion in the previous quarter.
The construction sector expanded by 7.7 per cent on-year compared to 12.3 per cent in previous quarter while the wholesale & retail trade sector contracted by 0.7 per cent on-year, after a 0.4 per cent decline in the second quarter.
On year-on-year basis, the finance & insurance sector declined by 2.7 per cent compared to 0.3 per cent increase in preceding quarter.
The year-on-year growth of the accommodation & food services sector moderated to 2.0 per cent, from 2.9 per cent in the preceding quarter.
MTI said Singapore's economic growth is expected to remain subdued for the rest of 2012 as sluggish external demand will likely weigh down the electronics manufacturing cluster.
However, it noted that expansion in the construction could help to provide modest growth support to the overall economy.
MTI said growth may be slightly lower than forecast if the weakness in the externally-oriented sectors persists into the final quarter of 2012.

今天清晨，澳洲北部的居民和好几千名游客亲眼目睹了一场罕见的日全食。
在当地时间上午 5点45分（新加坡时间上午 8点15分），当月亮开始移向太阳和地球之间，形成一个天狗吃月的景象。观看这场奇观的人，目不转睛地盯着渐渐变大的日食。
当遮挡日食的云开始散去，观看的人顿时大声喝彩，因为终于可以目睹一个完整的日全食。月亮必须完全遮盖太阳，并在周围露出昏暗的光环， 才算得上是一个日全食。
日全食发生时，就连动物鸟儿都静了下来，四周骤然鸦雀无声。诡异的静谧迎来了昏暗的天空，地面的温度也开始下降。
这场自然奇观吸引了世界各地超过百万名旅客到访。昆士兰政府估计，有约5至6万名旅客慕名而来。
在北半球，每410年日全食才会在同一个地方再度出现，而南半球则需要540年。
南太平洋最后一次的日全食出现在2010年7月11日。
