Electricity tariffs for Jul to Sep 2016 to rise by 9.2%: SP Services

SINGAPORE: The electricity tariffs for the third quarter of 2016 will increase by an average of 9.2 per cent, or 1.59 cents per kilowatt-hour (kWh), compared to the previous quarter.
In a press release on Thursday (Jun 30), SP Services said that this was largely due to the cost of natural gas for electricity generation, which rose by 26 per cent compared to second quarter 2016. It was partly offset by lower non-fuel costs, notwithstanding an increase in Market Support Services fee to meet higher market system and development costs, it added.
Electricity tariff for households will increase from 17.68 to 19.27 cents per kWh for Jul 1 to Sep 30 this year, SP Services said. The average monthly bill for families living in 4-room flats is expected to increase by S$6.79.
SP Services reviews the electricity tariffs quarterly based on guidelines set by the Energy Market Authority (EMA). The new tariffs have been approved by the EMA.

The fall translates to a S$0.20 decrease in the average monthly electricity bill for families living in four-room HDB flats, SP Services says.
SINGAPORE: Electricity tariffs will drop by an average of 0.05 cent per kWh or 0.2 per cent for the period July 1 to Sept 30, Singapore Power subsidiary SP Services said on Monday (June 30).
For households, the electricity tariff will decrease from 25.73 to 25.68 cents per kWh. This translates to a S$0.20 decrease in the average monthly electricity bill for families living in four-room Housing and Development Board (HDB) flats, SP Services said.
SP Services reviews electricity tariffs quarterly based on guidelines set by the Energy Market Authority (EMA). The latest tariffs have been approved by the EMA.

SINGAPORE: Electricity tariffs will go up by an average 1.5 percent for the next quarter of this year starting on 1 April.
SP Services says the revision is due to higher fuel prices which have been going up since the start of the year.
Grid charges have also increased due to additional infrastructure investments to meet increasing electricity demand and replace ageing assets.
SP Services says the average monthly electricity bill for families living in four-room HDB flats will go up by S$1.43.

The electricity tariff is coming down for the second straight quarter.
For the period of April 1 to June 30, it will be reduced by 21.37 per cent or 4.9 cents to 18.03 cents per kWh. This is the lowest rate in four years, since April 2005.
The tariff is currently at 22.93 cents per kWh for January to March 2009.
SP Services said the reduction is largely due to lower fuel oil prices.
The electricity tariff is reviewed quarterly and adjusted in line with the changes in the cost of electricity.
