Random Thoughts
I can't sleep well these few nights. No, it is not because of the world cup fever.
It could be the warm nights during this June .... But there are lots of stuff that are running in my mind such as:
- increasing expenses (especially bills)
- cpf (especially for housing and retirement)
- new planned hardware to get but not enough money!!!! =(
What to do?
I guess I have to tackle them one by one... And I need my sleep otherwise I will look like a zombie the next day!

Rental and labour costs have affected cooked food prices. Some hawkers told Channel NewsAsia cooked food prices have risen by at least 10 per cent compared to the same period last year.
SINGAPORE: Rental and labour costs have affected cooked food prices.
Some hawkers told Channel NewsAsia that cooked food prices have risen by at least 10 per cent compared to the same period last year.
NTUC Foodfare, a social enterprise that runs food courts and cooked food stalls, said it had to adjust its cooked food prices by about seven per cent.
The enterprise has a social outreach programme called 'Rice Garden', and the price of its cheapest meal starts at about S$2 at some hawker stalls.
Foodfare said it has plans to roll out this programme to more hawker centres by opening two stalls every month in order to have 100 stalls by 2015.
Perry Ong, CEO of NTUC Foodfare, said: "Even though we may be a social enterprise, we are not immune to the reality of the market today.
"As you know, the market for labour is very tight, so we have seen our fair share of increases in terms of labour costs. Rental costs have also continued to climb.
"This year, compared to the past years, and based on our own experiences, the labour cost has gone up in excess of six per cent, and for rental cost over the last year, we have seen an increase of anything between five and 20 per cent."

Some hawkers told Channel NewsAsia that cooked food prices have risen by at least 10 per cent compared to the same period last year.

Singapore's inflation rate eased in September after four consecutive months of gains, largely due to decline in private road transport cost.
SINGAPORE: Singapore's inflation rate eased in September after four consecutive months of gains, largely due to decline in private road transport cost.
The Department of Statistics said the Consumer Price Index (CPI) rose 1.6 per cent year-on-year in September, compared to 2.0 per cent in August.
The headline CPI rate is below economists' forecasts of about 2.0 per cent for September.
Private road transport cost fell by 2.0 per cent after rising marginally in August.
In a statement, the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) said the correction in car prices was due to the high base a year ago, and it more than offset the increase in petrol pump prices in September.
Accommodation cost eased to 3.9 per cent, which is due to a smaller increase in market rentals for both private and HDB properties.
Services inflation was stable at 2.7 per cent, as the higher recreation and entertainment cost was offset by lower contributions from education and household services fees.
Food inflation was 2.4 per cent in September, similar to a month ago.
MAS core inflation, which excludes the costs of accommodation and private road transport, was slightly lower at 1.7 per cent in September, compared to 1.8 per cent in August.
MAS said overall imported inflation is expected to remain subdued, but firms facing higher rentals, COE premiums for commercial vehicles, and labour costs could translate to higher prices of consumer services.
As a result. the MAS core inflation is expected to rise over the next few quarters, and average 1.5 to 2 per cent in 2013 and 2 to 3 per cent in 2014.
CPI-All Items inflation is projected to come in at 2.5 to 3 per cent in 2013 and 2 to 3 per cent in 2014.

Demand for rice in China falls with rising affluence

JILIN: China may be the world's biggest rice consumer, but some say demand will fall, as its people become more affluent and consume more meat and dairy products.
Nearly 200 million tonnes are produced in China each year.
But as grain processing became more mechanized, the appetite of affluent Chinese has also became more polished.
On average, a person in China is said to consume 90 kilograms of rice each year.
While that number is also the highest in the world right now, it is also expected to decrease over time.
With growing affluence, the Chinese are reportedly supplementing their diet with more dairy products, such as milk and cheese.
Meat and other protein-rich products are almost considered staple food.
Changing dietary patterns have led experts to predict that rice consumption in China will fall by half in the next decade.
A similar trend is already seen in countries like Japan and South Korea.
Despite changing dietary habits, Singapore-based Wilmar International remains positive.
"Those who eat more protein and dairy products will also demand for better quality rice. They're after the consumer-pack premium rice, so it won't affect demand," said Wu Zhihua, rice division director of Wilmar International.
"In recent years, consumer-pack rice has reached a volume of 6 to 7 million tonnes and is growing at 4 to 50 per cent each year."
Wilmar International is already China's largest producer of consumer-pack oil, under the brand Golden Dragon Fish.
Wilmar International has set its sights on growing its market share of consumer-pack rice - which currently stands at five per cent - by investing in better crops.
Mr Wu said: "Our investment here will be bigger than the ones for normal padi. The farmer must be incentivized to grow better crop for every order. While it's a huge investment, the unique grade of harvested crop can be processed into better rice and in turn fetch a higher price in the market."
Demand will also be kept up by another trend, where rural residents switch from wheat to a rice diet.
It is enough to drive up this year's projected rice consumption to over 137 million tons.

SINGAPORE: The Health Promotion Board (HPB) has launched a set of dietary guidelines for older adults aged 50 and above.
The aim is to help this group lower their risk of obesity, diabetes and heart disease.
This is the first time that dietary guidelines have been developed for seniors.
It highlights the need for a balanced and nutritious diet.
To make it easier for seniors to adjust their eating habits, the HPB has also included recipes and a healthier catering menu.
Over 100 elderly residents from Bukit Batok Constituency on Saturday learnt about the dietary guidelines as they witnessed a cooking demonstration led by Member of Parliament for Jurong Group Representation Constituency, David Ong.

Singapore's F&B service sector reaches out to job seekers

SINGAPORE: Singapore's food and beverage service sector hopes to get more Singaporeans to join the industry and make up the core of new hires to fill positions ranging from rank-and-file to managerial.
The Food & Beverage Managers' Association, with the support of Workforce Development Agency (WDA), held its first career clinic on Monday at VivoCity shopping mall.
The one-day clinic aimed to provide job seekers with insights into career and training opportunities within the sector.
The clinic had 10 participating organisations, ranging from hotels to restaurants.
Career opportunities available in the industry include positions such as chefs, bartenders and servers.
Outreach efforts like this "career clinic" are organised to let the public understand the opportunities available in the industry, and entice more to join up.
About three out of 10 positions in food-and-beverage outlets here are waiting to be filled.
There are some 6,000 food and beverage establishments in Singapore. The boom in the sector is expected to continue its momentum in the coming years, which means more job openings in future.
Minister of State for Manpower and Health, Dr Amy Khor, said: "We need to continue to publicise and let Singaporeans know that there are good quality jobs in the industry with good training opportunities and career pathways and prospects. Even if they start at the bottom at the shop floor for instance, they can progress upwards and that there are many opportunities."
Back-to-work women and older workers are among those the government hopes can supplement the sector's manpower needs.
The government is encouraging firms in the industry to implement more flexible and part-time work arrangements so more can be attracted to join.
Subsidies and assistance schemes are also in place to help companies improve productivity through process and job redesigns so firms can reduce their manpower requirements.
In addition, WDA will continue to support the sector with skills upgrading programmes to increase the number of higher skilled workers.
Such programmes have allowed some to make a career switch and join the food-and-beverage industry.
Anil Kumar's passion for food was enough to convince him to cross over from the mechanical industry.
The 41-year-old earned a pastry and bakery diploma under the Workforce Skills Qualifications programme.
Starting as an intern in 2008, Anil has worked at a few places before becoming a service captain at the restaurant where he now works.
"I got bored with the job that I was doing before because it was pretty much a work that doesn't bring me anywhere. And the fact that I love food, that was the reason why I crossed over from mechanic to the food and beverage industry," he said.
Cheong Hai Poh, who is president of Food and Beverage Managers' Association of Singapore, said there are opportunities in the industry to help workers fast-track their careers.
Mr Cheong said: "You can be fast-tracked if you are performing well. You can move from a waiter to a captain within one to two years, and from a captain to assistant manager. It depends on your own performance, knowledge and skill."

马国宰鸡影响蛋供 本地农场蛋价料涨
马来西亚农场宰杀500万只鸡，本地鸡蛋进口商表示，供应量不会受到影响。不过也有本地农场认为，目前鸡蛋成本高，利润薄，宰杀行动相信会推高鸡蛋的价格。
蛋商工会认为，马国宰杀500万只老母鸡，不会影响本地的进口量，因为当地原本每个月都会淘汰200多万只老母鸡，这次额外淘汰了200多万只，除了是因为美国饲料价格上涨之外，也因为适逢哈芝节，当地马来人对鸡肉需求量增加所致。
不过，这次宰鸡行动只会使鸡蛋的总供应量减少不到10%，而本地进口商也已经对此早有准备。
“我们在五个星期前，已经逐步的提高价格，涨幅在三分到三分半之间。”新加坡蛋商工会会长洪松茂解释。
至于哈芝节过后的鸡蛋，价格是否继续上涨，蛋商工会表示，这要看马国的小鸡产量是否稳定，然后他们才会决定是否需要做出相应的调整。
不过也有农场认为，本地和马国农场都面临成本高涨的压力，从6月至今已经上涨了八成，马国的宰鸡行动，相信会进一步推高鸡蛋的价格。
“今年初到目前为止，鸡蛋成本非常的高，可是我们的价格一直处于在低于成本的价位。马国淘汰了这些老母鸡之后，我相信他们的价格会有所调整。当他的鸡蛋调整之后，我相信新加坡的鸡蛋价格也会跟着调整。” 农场业者马琼就这么告诉记者。
另外，农场也表示，目前本地还不需要通过宰杀鸡只来控制成本。
目前我国鸡蛋的平均单价为18分，比起2004年禽流感时候的40分到50分价格，还是有一段距离。

许多人担心，接下来几个星期的蛋价还会继续攀高，这是因为雨季即将来临，而屠妖节、圣诞节等年底佳节也陆续到来。
目前，马来西亚农民每天生产2千万个鸡蛋，其中大约3百万个出口到新加坡。
当地农民已经致函农业部，希望当局能给予他们一些津贴，以稳定局势。
