SingPost to develop eCommerce Logistics Hub in Tampines

SingPost to develop eCommerce Logistics Hub in Tampines

SingPost will invest about S$182 million into the project, which will help to facilitate its expanding e-commerce logistics business.

SINGAPORE: To cater to its expanding e-commerce logistics business and the growing market, Singapore Post (SingPost) is investing about S$182 million to develop a three-storey eCommerce Logistics Hub in Tampines LogisPark.

The company said in a statement on Tuesday (Oct 14) that the e-commerce logistics market in Asia Pacific is estimated to grow to more than US$175.24 billion by 2016, and the new logistics hub will have a fully-automated parcel sorting facility and two modern warehousing floors.

It will also include an adjoining eight-storey office block to house SingPost's local and regional logistics operations - Quantium Solutions, Singapore Parcel and Lock+Store. SingPost says the development will be built on a 3.25-hectare plot of land leased from JTC Corporation for 30 years.

Dr Wolfgang Baier, Group Chief Executive Officer of SingPost said: "I expect our new facility will, in turn, further boost Singapore's aspiration to be the region's e-commerce hub. It will also enable SingPost to offer very cost-efficient fully integrated e-fulfilment solutions to our customers in a scalable manner."

Construction of the 553,000 square feet eCommerce Logistics Hub is expected to be completed by end January 2016 and fully operational in the second half of 2016.

Next-generation post offices built with the focus on digital needs

Next-generation post offices built with the focus on digital needs

The new post offices are aimed at meeting consumers' e-commerce and digital needs, such as round-the-clock facilities to post, collect or return parcels, says SingPost.

SINGAPORE: National postal service operator SingPost is revamping its post offices to meet changing lifestyles, particularly in the areas of e-commerce and digital needs.
Over the next few years, post offices will be remodelled into a "vibrant lifestyle hub" integrated with a 24/7 auto-lobby with POPStation and ezy2ship facilities to post, collect or return parcels, SingPost said in a press release on Friday (Oct 3).
Other customer-centric features introduced include user-friendly signs, packing desks where customers can pack and prepare their packages for mailing and having service ambassadors on hand during counter operating hours to assist customers with their needs.
SingPost added it had begun integrating essential services with digital access at its post offices since March this year, and the revamp will continue its streamlining initiative.
This week, it opened its eighth new concept post office at Suntec City Mall (#03-383), where SingPost is piloting a 3D printing service in collaboration with 3D Matters.
It also features a Business Solutions Centre, where customers can meet a sales representative to find out more about the range of corporate solutions offered by SingPost. Also at the outlet is an Innovation Corner, where start-ups and young entrepreneurs can showcase new business ideas.
Dr Wolfgang Baier, SingPost’s Group Chief Executive Officer, said: “Our new-generation customers are digitally-inclined, buying online and on-the-move, and they expect a post office experience that is digitally integrated.
"To meet their changing lifestyle, we are basically remodeling our post offices, and transforming them into modern, efficient hubs to meet their e-commerce and digital needs."
This integrated experience will also apply to other facilities such as Self-service Automated Machines (SAM), where customers can access multiple platforms including smartphones, tablets, desktop and SingPost's physical kiosks, Dr Baier added.

SingPost fined S$30,000 for mail loss incident

SingPost fined S$30,000 for mail loss incident
400-500 pieces of mail were lost in incident due to postwoman not having a lock for her mail trolley

SINGAPORE — SingPost has been issued a fine of S$30,000 by the Infocomm Development Authority for a breach in its mail security last September when an entire bag of 400-500 mail pieces meant for six HDB blocks in Woodlands were lost by a postwoman.

The postwoman had left a trolley of mail unattended but hidden behind wood debris at the corner of a void deck while she went to a washroom across the road. She did not take the mail trolley with her as it was raining, and she did not want to get the mail wet.

When she returned after 10 minutes, the mail was gone. SingPost then lodged a police report and performed searches at the surrounding area for four days but the mail was not recovered.

The mail loss was a breach of SingPost’s Public Postal License which states that it should establish, maintain and comply with appropriate measures and procedures to ensure that the risk of loss, theft and damage to letters is minimised.

IDA said in a statement that at the time of the incident, SingPost had no issued any lock or chain for trolleys used by its postmen which increased the risk of mail being stolen. IDA investigations also found that the nylon bags used by postmen were only slightly water-resistant.

SingPost has since issued water-resistant trolley bags that can be locked and standard bicycles with lockable boxes to its postmen.

The last IDA fine to SingPost was S$10,000 levied in June last year for not meeting quality of service standards in mail delivery time.
