Instagram signs deal with major ad agency
Instagram signs deal with major ad agency
POSTED: 08 Mar 2014 07:30
Facebook-owned photo sharing service Instagram said it has landed its first deal with a major ad agency.
SAN FRANCISCO: Facebook-owned photo sharing service Instagram on Friday said it has landed its first deal with a major ad agency.
The leading social network wouldn't disclose financial aspects of the alliance with Omnicom, but online reports indicated it could be worth as much as $100 million in ads from clients the agency represents.
"Omnicom shares our passion for and understanding of the mobile Instagram community," Facebook director of market operations Jim Squires said in an email reply to an AFP inquiry.
"Our teams are going to work hand in hand to develop and execute campaigns that provide people with amazing imagery - and drive meaningful business results for advertisers."
Squires maintained that Instagram's advertising strategy will continue to involve displaying a limited number of high-quality images or videos from brands that already have a strong presence at Instagram.
Instagram in November began displaying ads as Facebook moved to start making money from the smartphone photo sharing service it bought in a billion-dollar deal in early 2012.
Instagram's opening roster of advertisers included Adidas, Lexus, PayPal, Burberry and Ben & Jerry's ice cream.
California-based Facebook is carefully adding magazine-quality photo ads to Instagram as it hopes to bring in revenue from the service without alienating users.

Job adverts slip 0.7% on-quarter in Q1
Job adverts slip 0.7% on-quarter in Q1
POSTED: 27 May 2013 7:51 PM
Job advertisements in Singapore fell 0.7 per cent in the first quarter of 2013 compared to the last quarter of 2012, according to international recruitment consultancy Robert Walters.
SINGAPORE: Job advertisements in Singapore fell 0.7 per cent in the first quarter of 2013 compared to the last quarter of 2012, and dropped 7.3 per cent from January to March.
The advertising numbers were released by Robert Walters, an international recruitment consultancy.
The Robert Walters Asia Job Index tracks advertisement volumes for professional positions across the leading job boards and national newspapers in China, Hong Kong, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore and South Korea.
The index showed that job advertisements in Singapore for IT supervisors and administrators fell by 12.1 per cent.
Robert Walters said this correlates to the trend of companies shifting their hubs to cheaper locations in Southeast Asia to mitigate a stronger Singapore dollar.
While retail remains the largest sector by advertising numbers, the total number of advertised roles fell slightly by 0.6 per cent in Q1 compared to the previous quarter.
Advertisements for property management roles rose by 11.9 per cent in Q1 compared to Q4 last year.
The report noted that Singapore continues to build new developments to cater for a growing population.
Advertisements for accounting and finance roles increased by 4.1 per cent on the previous quarter.
The report attributed this largely to a sustained insurance market and growth in private banking and asset management, an area that is being supported by the growing number of wealthy expatriates moving to Singapore.
The total number of job advertisements for professional positions in Asia rose 4 per cent in the first quarter of 2013 from the last quarter of 2012.
From January to March 2013, recruitment advertising volumes across Asia grew by 20.6 per cent.
All territories except Singapore showed an increase in recruitment advertising in Q1 compared to Q4 2012.
The retail sector continued to be a strong area for job advertising. Advertising numbers increased in Malaysia (by 18.3 per cent), Hong Kong (10.9 per cent) and Japan (8.5 per cent).

Number of licensed moneylenders falls 16% after stricter advertising rules
Number of licensed moneylenders falls 16% after stricter advertising rules
By Lian Cheong | Posted: 13 December 2012 2249 hrs
SINGAPORE: Following stricter measures on advertisements, the number of licensed moneylenders has dropped from 260 to 218 from 31 October 2011 to 31 October 2012.
That's a decrease of about 16 per cent.
Since the ban of print advertisements took effect last November 2011, licensed moneylenders say their business has dropped by 50 per cent.
In August, the Singapore Moneylender's Association sent three proposals to the Registry of Money Lenders suggesting ways to tighten the business of licensed moneylending, and at the same time, to relax the strict advertising rules.
Some moneylenders are hoping that the authorities could allow them to advertise through the Singapore Moneylender's Association, so that the association could help manage and control the advertisements.
Currently, moneylenders can only advertise on commercial websites, such as yellow pages, as well as on the walls, windows and doors of the company's office.
They are also proposing that licensed moneylenders go through a background check to ensure they do not have any criminal records.
The third proposal is for new licence holders to have a minimum paid-up capital of $100,000 to $200,000.
Mr David Poh Cheng Seng, President of the Singapore Moneylenders' Association, said they are discussing the proposal with the Ministry of Law.
"This is our way of strengthening our moneylending market and we have a good reputation among our licence holders. Currently, we don't have any paid-up capital but we are in the pipeline of discussion through the Ministry of Law whether to set the minimum paid-up among our moneylending licence (holders) and also to check our background," he said.

Ads
I noticed that the large rectangle ad changed to display Lancome products instead of displaying the usual ads: Philips or Furby.
To be honest, I don't use beauty and related products and I don't know much about them. Hopefully, Lancome and Nuffnang can bring me some profits!
