SINGAPORE: Supermarket chain NTUC FairPrice on Monday (Dec 8) launched its Warehouse Club, the first members-only retail warehouse in Singapore for groceries and household consumables.
The 80,000 sq ft, two-storey retail store, located at 1 Joo Koon Circle, carries a product range of 4,000 items that are sold in larger than usual packages. There will also be new and exclusive brands, and discounted products for members, FairPrice said. Close to 12,000 people have signed up as members.
By purchasing items in bulk packs, members can enjoy up to 20 per cent in savings on a selected range of essential groceries, fresh and frozen food, household consumables, health and beauty products and general merchandise, FairPrice said.
The store follows a similar format of membership-based stores in the United States and other Asia-Pacific markets like Japan, South Korea, Taiwan and Australia.
Mr Gerry Lee, NTUC FairPrice’s Deputy CEO of Operations, said: “The warehouse club concept has been a growing success overseas where shoppers enjoy very deep discounts by buying in large quantities.”
Membership is open to all members of the public – S$35 per year for NTUC Union members and S$50 per year for non-Union members.
