Great Singapore Sale begins on Friday

To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Great Singapore Sale, the Singapore Retailers Association said it will reward the biggest spender at the sale with S$20,000.

SINGAPORE: Retailers and food outlets islandwide will be offering a slew of deals and bargains during the Great Singapore Sale, which starts on Friday.

To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Great Singapore Sale, the Singapore Retailers Association said it will reward the biggest spender at the sale with S$20,000.

It is also doing its part for the community during this shopping season.

The Association is giving S$20,000 to charity, to help underprivileged children experience the the joy of shopping.

With the money, some will get to do a home makeover, while others will get a shopping budget to buy items of their choice.

Dr Jannie Chan, president of the Singapore Retailers Association, said: "Last year, I was very moved when we started this programme for two homes, and I realised they did not even have shoes, for a year, they have never had a makeover, their mothers do not even have a handbag. And we felt we want to extend this. So this year, we are extending it to five, and I am going to participate in it, and we are encouraging the sponsors to participate.

"This is something that we will probably grow because it is something that is meaningful; it is relating to shopping, it makes a difference to their lives and it will help us understand different types of consumers, and if we know that we can give more, we certainly will."
