Labour squeeze: Security firm offers $10k as 'joining bonus'

HERE’S $10,000 -- if you are willing to join us as a security officer.

This is what one security agency here is offering to try to stem its manpower shortage.

Since mid-December last year, Certis Cisco has put up classified advertisements offering the $10,000 "joining bonus" for experienced security officers. Another agency, Aetos, has been offering up to $8,000 as a similar bonus.

The issue of a manpower shortage in the security industry is not a new one. Neither are the bonuses, which are usually paid out over a period of time, like two to three years.

However, this is believed to be the highest amount offered so far.
