SINGAPORE: More than 58,000 people visited the recently concluded Singapore Motorshow 2016. That is 6,000 more than last year, organisers said in a news release on Monday (Jan 18).

The event that ran from Jan 14 to 17 at the Suntec Singapore Convention and Exhibition Centre was bigger than that that for the previous year, occupying two floors of the venue. It featured more than 20 new car launches as well as the return of Russ Swift’s popular stunt-driving performance.

President of the Motor Traders Association of Singapore (MTA) Glenn Tan cited the recent drop in COE prices as one reason why attendance soared. "COE dropped significantly in terms of pricing two weeks ago,” he said. “At the same time, there was a quota increase announcement, and so I think it just got people to get out and take a look.

"We will certainly look to build on this year’s momentum for the next edition in 2017," he added.

MTA organised the event in partnership with Mediacorp for a second year running. “The event's continued success is a testament of our joint (MTA and Mediacorp) commitment to deliver a strong product that audiences want," said Jessie Sng, head of the Men, Women, Parents Customer Group of Mediacorp.

Visitors to the Singapore Motorshow also had the chance to meet Mediacorp artistes such as Zheng Ge Ping, Chew Chor Meng, Chen Tian Wen, and Kym Ng.

One lucky visitor, Kee Wei Kiat, won a brand new Subaru Impreza through a lucky draw conducted by MTA in collaboration with Subaru. Other lucky winners received prizes from sponsors such as Mediacorp and AIG Singapore.

There was also an opportunity for visitors to give back through a charitable initiative run by  HL Bank. The money raised will benefit approximately 790 seniors through programmes run by TOUCH.
