More signing up for accounting courses despite financial turmoil
Channel NewsAsia
SINGAPORE : The economic downturn may have hit the financial sector hard, but some Singaporeans are signing up for accounting courses to upgrade themselves.
Li Li, a former nurse, is one such example. She is currently enrolled at the Institute of Certified Public Accountants (ICPA).
ICPA said the number of people who have signed up has increased by 1.6 percent compared to last year.
Registration for its certified accounting technician course has also gone up by 15 per cent.
The institute plans to expand its premises and is currently in talks to sign up as a partner under the government’s SPUR training programme, so that its students can enjoy higher subsidies.
